Read on a German forum that the k 1600 B had restricted top speed to 200km/h (about 122mph)!?
Anyone know anything about that?

I recall the owners manual saying 115mph with the floorboards installed and I think 125 without. I can doublecheck when I get home. I have not tested this...
Makes the 175mph speedo seem a little silly on this model. My regular street normal speeds barely register.

Hold it, Bagger? Compete with other baggers? Shouldn't the max speed be 55 mph?
Seriously though, without a top case the top speed should be the same as the GT. Shouldn't it?

Imagine 155 mph with your feet on the floorboards, recipe for disaster for one.
Lots of B buyers come straight from HD, most of them never went beyond 100 mph and would probably kill themselves in large numbers without the the cap on top speed.
So smart move from BMW but there is more they could do. Lifting the speed limit as a payable option like on some high performance cars would be nice. And BMW could make serious money from it. Rider certification course for $1000 and only $500 for the software change............

With those average speeds and that Max speed, you must of been going about 30 MPH the rest of the ride?

120 restricted is no problem for me. GPS recorded top reached speed of 112 on my two last K16's .
But I agree it should be as a GT with 155 restriction as it has no top box.

I think its more because with the floorboards (wings) over 122 the bike will start to lift off. Ahhahahaha. ;O)

On the official BMW site it just says that the top speed is "over 200 kmh".
It says the same for the GT and the GTL.

Have had mine on the 4200 foot airport runway shut it down at 130mph, 209kph, in about 1200 ft, just past the 1000 ft markings, it as still accelerating hard. 130 mph/ 209 kph in the quarter mile is good enough for me. Did not feel like copying the 2 old guys in the Hellcat 2 weeks ago, old guy on a K-B runs off the end of the runway. Since the K-B sleeps in the Hangar with the airplane and the RT, the runway is the front yard.

My 2015 1600 GT maxed out GPS reading 131, I called the dealer to find out they started restricting them (don't know about all) because so many people were installing the large top case. I was a little disappointed, as my 2012 GTL registered 138. All water under the bridge now, I've traded for a B, going to New Orleans to swap WED hopefully.

Personally I would rather the Nav didn't retain stats like that, so easily accessible to inquisitive 3rd parties. Read & reset.
There is a solution though. Someone, I think it was on here, took their Nav unit on a flight & managed to get it to pick up the Sats at 550mph or thereabouts. Fine, as long as you don't hit the reset.

I remember riding a 1983 Yamaha Venture at 120 and the front end getting very light. I don't mind to limiters for safety sake.

Perception is reality as they say. Unless you're riding something in the 250cc class, few people buy a bike thinking that they want to use every bit of its maximum performance so it's more of an ego thing for when the frequent and inevitable question comes your way "How fast do it go?"
My guess is that there are many riders who will never go over 100 mph but would never buy a bike that is speed limited to that speed. But we all have to grow up and subordinate our egos so a lower max speed limit for a bagger, if I ever want one, is perfectly fine for me as long as it's up in the 120 mph range. I do sometimes cruise along at speeds near that. >

When I am on good Autobahn I set the CC to about 115 mph and let her just run. Very comfortable speed for the bike, maintains it on inclines with no effort and I can relax.

No need for an airplane ride. A GPS has no idea where it is nor how fast it is currently moving. It only knows where it was when it last calculated its position and the position prior. By doing simple TSD calculations it figures out how fast, on average, you needed to be traveling to cover that distance in that amount of time. Depending on refresh rates, modern GPS units could have a full second between fixes. Just having a crappy signal that the GPS "thinks" is good, followed immediately by a genuinely good signal several miles away from where the GPS thought it was a second earlier will result in maximum speeds like this:

With the new box, the "American" is limited to 96mph.

That would absolutely suck, I would hit the limiter almost every time I rolled on the throttle to make a pass on the interstate.
